Canon EF 24-105 f/4 IS

This lens is my “most boring“ one. On my Canon EOS 7D, a crop sensor camera, the wide end isn’t quite wide enough for the most things. It’s equivalent to about a 38mm lens on a full frame camera. On the long end it has quite a bit of reach on a APS-C camera of 168mm equivalent. With the widest possible aperture of f/4 you get a fair amount of subject separation at 24mm, but at more tele focal lengths you can get nice bokeh. The image stabilization (IS) is effective and in part makes up for the light you lose when compared to the 24-70 f/2.8. The autofocus is very accurate fast, but not as fast as the Canon 70-200, of course. It’s built decently, but feels a bit too lite for its size. It is weather sealed and sadly not internally zooming. The lens is sharp, but not as sharp as the Sigma 18-35 or 70-200. The image quality is a lot better at the long end than on the wide end.

It’s a lot better than any kit lens, obviously - the a L-series lens. I use it mainly for video and shoot with it occasionally landscapes and events with good lighting. For someone with an APS-C camera I’d rather recommend a 17 or 18mm lens, because 24mm just isn’t wide enough with a crop.
